Vulnerable population groups, including groups with potential vulnerability:
children, elderly, and people with asthma, cardiovascular or chronic lung diseases.
During episodes of exceedance of the alarm thresholds the following measures have to be undertaken:
- Hard physical labor in the open air should be avoided. If unavoidable, it is recommended
to be done early in the morning or late in the evening, if the monitoring bodies have notified
of lower air pollution. Certain pollutants (ozone) reach very high values at noon and in the afternoon;
- The teachers should cancel sports activities, such as running, football, basketball, etc.
in the open air and substitute them with non-competition activities or indoor activities;
- The indoor stay should continue till the episode of intensive atmospheric pollution ends
and the room windows should be kept tightly closed;
- Smoking is not allowed and premises in which smoking is allowed should be avoided;
- Stay in regions with intensive automobile transport where there are a lot of exhaust gases
should be avoided, as well as stay at working premises with additional exposure to aerosols,
dust and other irritants;
- Activities, generating substances, irritating the nose, eyes and lungs, such as cooking,
cleaning, practicing of unsuitable hobbies should be limited;
- Patients, suffering from coronary disease should avoid physical load in the open air on days
with alarm values of the atmospheric pollutants, due to the risk of acute myocardial ischemia
and myocardial infarction;
- No medicinal preparations for treatment of lung and cardio-vascular diseases relate to air pollution.
Remarks:
1. The precautions have to be taken in cases of alarm thresholds exceedances within three or more consecutive hours.
2. The data presented cover the period after the beginning of 2005.
