Aims of the declaration:
1. Protecting the Lom River and its adjacent areas and improving its hydromorphological condition and restoring the ecological river ecosystem and maintaining the habitats of species of high conservation value, such as fish species: Cobitis elongata, Sabanejewia balcanica, Barbatula barbatula, Romanogobio uranocopus, Romanogobio kesslerii, bRodeus amarus, Gobio cf. obtusirostris etc., oUnio crassus , Astacus astacus, etc., as a territory and with characteristic or remarkable landscapes, including those resulting from the harmonious coexistence of man and nature.
Current prohibitions and regimes:
1. It is prohibited construction of new facilities preventing the migration of fish and other aquatic organisms, with the exception of temporary barrier facilities during construction, repair and maintenance of technical infrastructure;
2. It is prohibited search, exploration and extraction of underground resources under the Subsurface Resources Act;
3. It is prohibited extraction of inert materials;;
4. It is prohibited movement of motor vehicles and equipment in the riverbed, with the exception of: when performing activities related to preventive flood protection and other official duties by the responsible institutions; when carrying out scientific studies; during repair and reconstruction of existing facilities; in emergency and disaster situations;
5. It is prohibited washing of motor vehicles and agricultural machinery in watercourses and pollution with waste;
6. It is prohibited construction of facilities preventing the transfer of sediments, with the exception of cases related to restoring the natural hydromorphological state of the river or improving the ecological state of the river ecosystem, as well as temporary barrier facilities during construction, repair and maintenance of technical infrastructure;
7. It is prohibited felling, as well as any kind of damage to the natural river vegetation, with the exception of preventive activities in the event of flooding, which may lead to a risk to human life and health or the occurrence of material damage, as well as the occurrence of natural disasters and equipment breakdowns and maintenance;
8. It is prohibited destruction of hydromorphological elements, such as meanders, islands, arms, sand and gravel hairs, river banks, except for cases when it is related to protection from the harmful effects of water, according to the Water Law and during maintenance of the facilities;
9. It is prohibited the activities that lead to a volley of water and a sudden change in water temperature, with the exception of cases of natural disasters and accidents;
10. It is prohibited construction of the Water Power Plant.
