Aims of the declaration:
1. Conservation of habitats of endangered, rare and vulnerable waterfowl and waterfowl nesting in mixed colonies on the Danube islands in the Bulgarian section of the river, such as Phalacrocorax carbo, Microcarbo pygmeus, Ardea cinerea, Egretta garzetta, Platalea leucorodia and others falling in Annex No. 3 of the Law on Biological Diversity, as well as in a territory with a characteristic river landscape, incl. floodplain forests, representing a suitable resting place for conservation-important bird species and a potential place for their nesting.

Current prohibitions and regimes:
1. It is prohibited pollution with domestic, construction, industrial, dangerous and other waste;
2. It is prohibited hunting of feathered game, as well as large and small game during the birds' nesting period (from March 1 to August 15);
3. It is prohibited to felling of tree and shrub vegetation;
4. It is prohibited mowing during the birds' nesting period;
5. It is prohibited extraction of inert materials, including when cleaning of forest areas;
6. t is prohibited logging during the birds' nesting period;
7. It is prohibited forestry activities that lead to the replacement of natural vegetation with non-native species;
8. It is prohibited construction, as well as other activities that change the natural landscape, with the exception of the cases under item 3.2 (for the purpose of realizing objects of national importance);
9. It is prohibited leveling, destruction and disconnection between the main course of the Danube River and the existing backwaters.
